Shallow mouthpieces and values, loose shakes, gratuitous high notes….all here. Also, the horns I choose and why.
First and foremost, I play a Yamaha 8310Z trumpet and flugelhorn. These are classic “working trumpet players” horns. Beautiful sound, quick response, and tremendously flexible and versatile. Big band, brass choir, salsa, funk, jazz solo, you name it. I have yet to find a situation where my trusty Z was not up to the task.
And speaking of gratuitous high notes, here is the notorious Arturo version of the infamous Diz lick from “Night in Tunisia.” No animals were harmed in the filming of this snippet.
